Newport Mall, Hudson Mall could be replaced in the future
A draft of the Jersey City Master plan hints that Newport Mall could be turned into mixed-use developments, high-rises with affordable units, and community facilities, reports NJ.com. The draft also envision parts of the city’s west side without Hudson Mall and Stadium Plaza. A city spokesperson tells NJ.com that proposals in the draft are based on community feedback and “nothing would transpire without support from the current property owners.” The Jersey City Master plan is designed to pinpoint areas to improve in each neighborhood in the city.

Mayor breaks ground on new firehouse in Bergen-Lafayette
Mayor Steven Fulop recently broke ground on Jersey City’s first new firehouse in 20 years. The $5.6 million state-of-the-art firehouse will be located at 627 Grand Street in Bergen-Lafayette. The 12,000 square foot fire station will house Engine 10 and Ladder 12, formerly of Halladay Street. Construction is expected to finish by next summer.
Jersey City population increases 18.1%
The Census Bureau released its 2020 Census data last week declaring Newark as New Jersey’s biggest city with a population of 311,549 (up 12.4%). By comparison, Jersey City’s population clocked in at 292,449 (up 18.1%). Although both cities grew substantially from 2010, Newark keeps its title as the city with the biggest population in New Jersey.
