COVID-19 infections continue to climb in Jersey City

March was the third worst month for coronavirus Jersey City infections. According to the JC COVID Dashboard, the city reported 4,110 total new infections for the month of March. To date, the worst months for confirmed cases include:

  • January 2021 (4,483)
  • April 2019 (4,126)
  • March 2021 (4,110)
  • December 2019 (4,051)

Although tracking down a vaccine appointment in Jersey City remains difficult, Hudson County has received more vaccine allotment for this week. As a result, Jersey City has added new appointments.

Jersey City among the nation’s top 5 most expensive cities to rent

A new study has named Jersey City one of the country’s top five priciest cities for rent, reports NJ Digest. The Howmuch.net study lists Jersey City as the nation’s fifth most expensive city for renting an apartment. Jersey City joins New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The study looks at the February 2021 data from Apartment Guide. It specifically looks at rents for a 2BR apartment. Whereas New York City commands the highest rent at $4,927/month, Jersey City isn’t far behind at $3,821/month.

Vaccine eligibility expands in New Jersey

Governor Phil Murphy is expanding vaccine eligibility for New Jersey residents. As of today (April 5), residents aged 55 to 64 years old, as well as anyone over 16 with developmental disabilities, can get vaccinated. The full list includes:

  • Individuals ages 55-64
  • Individuals ages 16 and up with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Educators, including support staff, in higher education settings
  • Communications infrastructure support, including engineers, and technicians, and members of the press
  • Real estate, building, and home service workers, including construction workers, code officials, plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, property management, and maintenance workers
  • Retail financial institution workers, including bank tellers, lending services, public accounting, and check-cashing workers
  • Sanitation workers providing disinfection and janitorial services, city sanitation workers; residential, commercial, and industrial solid and hazardous waste removal workers
  • Laundry service workers, including those working in laundromats, laundry services, and dry cleaners
  • Utility workers including, electrical generation and supply system, natural gas delivery, nuclear power plant, water supply, telephone, cable/fiber/optical/broadband/cellular service workers
  • Librarians and support staff at municipal, county, and state libraries
