Update: Makai Poke Co. has reached out to us and informed us that they have no intention of opening a restaurant in Jersey City. “Makai Poke Jersey City” has no affiliation with Makai Poke Co.
Hoboken’s Makai Poke Co. is coming to Jersey City.
The Hawaiian-inspired restaurant will open its first downtown eatery at 207 Hudson Street later this spring.
Although Makai specializes in poke bowls, their menu goes far beyond the traditional spicy salmon bowl. The restaurant also offers a variety of Hawaiian-inspired hotdogs like its Kimchi Dog, which is topped with gochujang, kimchi, pickles, crispy garlic, and sesame seeds. You’ll also find “Island Plates” consisting of Kalua Pulled Pork or Pulled Teriyaki Chicken.
There’s even a touch of Tony Boloney’s creativity happening at Makai, which offers poke pizzas and poke burritos.
On the lighter side, Makai also offers a variety of build-your-own açaí and pitaya bowls.
Price-wise, most bowls and dishes fall in the $7.99 to $15 range.
