LITM — one of the first bars to open along the Pedestrian Plaza — permanently closed its doors last Thursday.

“With a full and grateful heart, I say farewell,” wrote owner Jelynne Jardiniano Morse on the bar’s website. “Since 2003, LITM has been a neighborhood destination for individuals to connect and build community. After seventeen years, the LITM story has come to an end.”

The bar had been up for sale for quite some time and NJ.com reports that an offer was recently made and accepted.

If you’re somewhat new to Jersey City, LITM was a downtown staple since before the Pedestrian Plaza even existed. Located at 140 Newark Avenue, it was the first bar/lounge to open along Newark Avenue at a time when there was zero nightlife in downtown Jersey City.

LITM embraced the local arts scene like few other bars have. It featured a rotating art gallery that proudly showcased the work of local artists. It also frequently hosted pop-up kitchens introducing locals to local food entrepreneurs who didn’t have a brick-and-mortar location.

There will be a farewell party, but it won’t take place at LITM. Details on the closing party will be revealed soon.

LITM is the fourth small business to close along the Pedestrian Plaza in the past few weeks. We’ve also lost Pasta e Vino, Sawadee, and Downtown Hardware. Further along Newark Avenue we’ve also seen the closing of Third & Vine and will soon lose Roflcopter and FM Jersey City.
