The newly constructed Liberty State Park bridge is partially open. The bridge, which extends Jersey Avenue into Liberty State Park, provides downtown Jersey City residents with a new route to Audrey Zapp Drive.
The bridge is currently open to pedestrians and cyclists only. The roadway includes two vehicular lanes (northbound and southbound), two bicycle lanes, and sidewalks. The $13 million project began in the summer of 2019 and was funded by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and Jersey City.

- Smorgasbar now open along the waterfront
Previously, park-goers had to walk to the end of Jersey Avenue and take the Ethel Pesin Liberty Footbridge to cross the Morris Canal and enter Liberty State Park. The new Liberty State Park bridge offers a safer and more direct route.
However, some residents worry that the new roadway will add further congestion to downtown streets. The fear is that New York-bound drivers stuck in traffic could take exit 14B and use the new extension to cut through neighborhood streets and get to the Holland tunnel. For the time being, it’s unclear when the bridge will open to vehicular traffic.
