What started as a temporary move for the Katyn Memorial is turning out to be a permanent relocation. Over the weekend Mayor Steven Fulop announced that Exchange Place’s Katyn Memorial “is 100% being moved.”
2 be clear 1) the statue is 100% being MOVED to the place it was supposed to be per 1986 ordinance 2) senior ppl of the polish govt reached out + I won’t meet w/ppl that try to rewrite history on their country’s role in a Holocaust 3) the only ppl I answer to is Jersey City -done https://t.co/P249eHFBRb

The 1986 ordinance that Mayor Fulop alludes to says the statue was originally supposed to reside at 75 Montgomery Street (near the post office), but the original location was moved because the statue didn’t fit there, according to the Jersey Journal.
Those in favor of keeping the statue at Exchange Place are planning a protest for Sunday, May 13 at 3pm in front of the statue.
