Jersey City theater company The Curtain will unveil a new production of Shakespeare’s classic Romeo & Juliet this fall. The Curtain originally debuted in 2019 as Shakespeare@ Grace Church. The company launched with a production of Hamlet starring Jonathan Forbes (Amazon’s “Catastrophe”) and SAG Award nominee Eden Brolin (Paramount’s “Yellowstone”).
Leading the Romeo & Juliet cast are Aria Shaghasemi (CW’s “The Originals” and “Legacies”) as Romeo and Italian actress/Venice Film Festival Award winner Anita Pomario (The Macaluso Sisters) as Juliet. They’ll be joined by Andrew Sellon (Fox’s “Gotham”) as Friar Laurence, Mark Torres (Amadeus on Broadway) as Capulet, Thia Stephan (Shakespeare@’s Hamlet and Julius Caesar) as Lady Capulet, and Christianna Nelson (Shakespeare & Co. member) as The Nurse.
Set at the dawn of the Jazz Age, this diverse production will feature a ’20s dance number. Directed and Adapted by Sean Hagerty, The Curtain’s Romeo & Juliet will play at the Nimbus Arts Center (329 Warren Street) beginning Thursday, September 28th ahead of an opening night set for Saturday, September 30th. The show is set to run through Sunday, October 22nd. Admission is $25/pp and tickets can be purchased now online.
