The NY Waterway ferry terminal at Port Liberte is back. Thanks to a $4 million New Jersey Department of Transportation grant, city officials have restored services at the Port Liberte terminal with a 40% discount on travel rates. After discount, adult tickets are $8 each way.
Additionally, Mayor Steven Fulop has announced that the city will provide free transportation to and from the ferry terminal through Via Jersey City, the city’s on-demand bus service.
“We saw a unique opportunity with this underutilized ferry terminal and added free Via rides for direct access to encourage residents in Greenville and the West Side who are close in proximity but have been deterred for decades due to its secluded location,” said Mayor Fulop.
The Port Liberte terminal had remained shut down since the start of the pandemic in February of 2020. The Fulop Administration acquired the ferry terminal to take an active role in subsidizing ferry rates for residents traveling to and from NYC.
To further expand connectivity, city officials will use grant funding to build several new Citi Bike stations in the Greenville and Bergen-Lafayette neighborhoods giving residents even more ways to reach the Port Liberte terminal. (Bike carry-on fees will be waived at the Port Liberte terminal).
