Good news for coffee lovers. Jersey City has been named the 14th best city in the U.S. for coffee, according to a survey by Rent.com. The survey was based on the number of independent coffee shops located in each city.
As anyone who lives in Jersey City knows, there’s no shortage of indie coffee shops in our neck of the woods. From locally owned Hybrid Coffee in downtown to recently opened Belle Ame Cafe in Journal Square, the city is brimming with small coffee shops specializing in single-origin brews.
For this survey, Rent.com looked at the 150 most populated cities in America and then looked at the total number of coffee-related business establishments in each city. It then ranked each city evenly by the number of local (non-chain) businesses per square mile of land area and the percentage of all coffee businesses in the city that are not chains. (In other words, the survey wasn’t meant to address the quality of the coffee served in each city).
The percentage of local coffee businesses in Jersey City came out to 50.79%, which beat New York City’s 50.47%.
