99 Ranch Market is the latest supermarket chain to open in downtown Jersey City. The California-based market specializes in Asian foods/brands with a large number of imported produce from Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, and China.
Prices are extremely aggressive across the board (for example: $8.99/lb. for wild caught scallops, $3.99/lb. for pork belly, $3.69 for dragon fruit) and they have a wide variety of services and sections making it one of the most complete supermarkets in the downtown area. A few things you’ll find:
- Live, wild caught, and previously frozen local and imported seafood (with complimentary same-day frying/steaming services)
- Butcher section with pork, duck, chicken, etc.
- Ramen, congee, juice/smoothie areas
- Hot deli with roast duck and BBQ food
- Cantonese style dim sum restaurant
- Bakery with house-made pastries and breads
What you won’t find. (At least I didn’t spot any of these on their opening weekend).
- Pet food
- Cheese section/aisle
The market just opened so I’m sure they have a few more tricks up their sleeve. In the meantime, if you still haven’t been, below is a small tour of the space and foods you’ll find.
