Welcome to Foodie Spotlight — a column that highlights the best cocktails, entrees, or desserts we’re currently enjoying and recommend.
Hidden Grounds Coffee has only been open a few days, but it’s already become one of our favorite coffee houses. The space is both inviting and laid back sans the cooler-than-thou attitude exhibited at some coffee bars across the Hudson. The staff are also very cordial and ready to answer any questions or make recommendations. But really it’s the drinks and pastries that’ll have you coming back for more.
Among the lattes, we’re huge fans of the turmeric latte and matcha latte. The former has a very noticeable spice to it, but it’s by no means overbearing and goes down nicely on a cold day. The matcha latte is as delicious as it looks being both delicate and creamy. (Teas are courtesy of Harney & Sons).
On the pastry front, Hidden Grounds offers a generous slice of banana chia bread, which is moist without being oily like other cafe breads we’ve tried. The vegan chai spice cookie is another favorite and pairs nicely with just about any hot drink they offer.
All pastries are made in-house or transported to Jersey City from their New Brunswick location. Currently, only pastries are available, but we were informed that food will be coming very soon (possibly by end of this week).
