Downtown Jersey City is losing one of its live music venues. FM Jersey City will permanently close next month. Anthony Vito Susco, also known as “Dancing Tony,” made the announcement last week via a Facebook video.
“As of January 31, 2020 FM will be closing our doors here in Jersey City,” says Susco in the video. Susco has been booking talent and running the venue since it reopened in January of 2018.
In an interview with NJ.com, Susco admits that making FM work has been difficult with nights where the venue has been packed and other nights where it’s not been as busy. Located at 340 Third Street, the venue has undergone multiple changes in the past few years. It was originally Union Republic before becoming FM restaurant in 2017. In 2018, the retro-themed 70s restaurant — which failed to catch on with diners — closed and reopened with the same name, but now sporting a stage for live music.
While the fate of the FM venue is unknown after January, Susco says they will have “the best two months of shows” in the coming weeks. Already, a huge Burlesque blowout show is in the works for January. You can follow other upcoming events via FM’s Facebook page.
