One of Jersey City’s most complicated redevelopment projects just took a big step forward. Urban design and development firm Dresdner Robin just wrapped up the first phase of environmental cleanup at The Cove Jersey City.
Located along Aetna Street and Jersey Avenue (just outside Liberty State Park), the 18-acre site will become the home of two residential towers, retail buildings, and a 2-acre public park. The Cove is considered to be one of the largest development sites in downtown Jersey City.
The next phase of the project, which starts mid-2021, will focus on infrastructure improvement. Part of that entails elevating the site approximately 10 to 12 feet. This will help to reduce flooding and account for future sea level rise.
For Jersey City residents, the centerpiece of the project is the 2-acre public park, which will double as a scenic and functional gateway to Liberty State Park. Construction on the two towers will commence in 2022.
Dresdner Robin has been involved with dozens of projects in Jersey City, including the forthcoming Whole Foods Jersey City location.
