Discount store Rumi is coming to Newport Mall
[Update: Rumi is now open on level two across from the AT&T Store].
International discount store Rumi is opening a storefront inside Newport Centre Mall. Rumi carries a wide range of items that includes toys, fashion accessories, computer speakers, household items, and more. The store carries original items that are manufactured across the globe from Korea to Germany. A grand opening date hasn’t been set yet, but the first 100 customers will get a free gift with any purchase. Rumi recently opened a storefront in Staten Island as well (pictured above).
Controversial dress policy at The Ashford making headlines again
Hoboken-based establishment The Ashford is making headlines again for an allegedly racist incident that occurred this past weekend, reports NJ.com. Security at The Ashford would not permit a trio of Black diners to eat indoors because one of them was wearing sweatpants. However, video taken by one of the diners allegedly shows how white customers — who were not following the restaurant’s dress code — were allowed inside the establishment.
Officials invest $2m toward helping Jersey City’s homeless
Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop announced plans to spend $2 million to expand services for the city’s homeless community. The money will be spent to expand and renovate a current shelter/facility at 514 Newark Avenue. Money invested will be used to install permanent showers, add a free laundry facility, renovate bathrooms, and install an elevator to ensure ADA compliance.
