Curbed puts the spotlight on a gut-renovated penthouse inside Waldo Lofts, a 12-story condo in the Powerhouse Arts District. Regina and Billy Mariano, a couple from New York’s Upper West Side, bought the loft during the 2009 recession and then spent 2 years redesigning the home’s interior. (It didn’t hurt that Regina has her own interior design business). According to Curbed, the fixtures that were in place — a metal spiral staircase, popcorn ceilings, and laminate flooring — were torn out and replaced with features that reflected the couple’s tastes.
The couple expanded the kitchen by turning an office/third bedroom into an enormous pantry, expanded the master bedroom and master bath, and even tore out and replaced the staircase in the living room. Although there are no before-and-after pics, the couple ultimately created a stunning condo. But as a Curbed commenter points out, it looks like the Marianos are now selling their dream home for $1,999,000 million. You can check out the entire photo gallery via the link. —Curbed
