Cryo Cream is opening its first ice cream and coffee shop in Jersey City. The new storefront, located at 413 Monmouth Street (between 4th and 3rd Streets), opens Friday (July 19) at 3pm.
The new shop will specialize in liquid nitrogen desserts. Chef and owner Matt Marotto uses organic ingredients and liquid nitrogen to transform traditional ice cream sundaes into smoking (and edible) works of art. In addition to the unique presentation, the liquid nitrogen also helps create a smoother ice cream with a richer flavor.
Marotto, who appeared in season 3 of Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship, has been operating Cryo Cream as a pop-up in New York and Jersey City. The shop has been at Broadway Bites, Midnight Market, and Liberty Science Center’s LSC After Dark.
Some of Marotto’s “cryogenic creations” include the Glampfire (Graham cracker ice cream, toasted marshmallow, chocolate syrup injector, homemade graham crackers, and pop-rocks) and No Stout About It (chocolate stout ice cream, chicharrĂ³n crumbles, roasted peanut butter whipped cream, and dulce de leche syrup injector).
One of the shop’s signature sundae’s will be the Chocolate Relapse. (Photo below). It packs chocolate fudge brownie ice cream, Cocoa Puffs, white chocolate whipped cream, and a Valrhona dark chocolate syrup injector.
Coffee lovers will also like the Jaguar Java. It has Honduran coffee ice cream, chocolate espresso beans, waffle cookies, chestnut whipped cream, and dulce de leche cream injector.
In addition to ice cream, the shop will also offer nitro beverages such as a nitro cold brew affogato and a nitro frozen hot chocolate. There’s also a special treat called Dragon’s Breath, which is a nitro-infused caramel popcorn.
Cryo Cream Jersey City is currently in soft open mode.
