The Jersey City Pedestrian Plaza is getting a small extension. City officials have posted on the Jersey City Instagram account plans to close Barrow Street to vehicular traffic from Columbus Drive to Bay Street.
According to the post, this will be a pilot during which the city’s Traffic and Engineering team will evaluate the safety benefits and traffic conditions. At the end of August, city officials will solicit community feedback to determine if the closure will be permanent.
To accommodate emergency access and special events, a steel swing gate has been installed across the width of Barrow Street at the north crosswalk of the intersection with Columbus Drive.
