Chef Tan is coming to Jersey City.
The Highland Park-based restaurant is opening its first Jersey City outpost just steps away from the Pavonia PATH station.
Renovations at 558 Washington Boulevard — formerly home to Confucious Asian Bistro — started a few months ago as spotted by Jersey Digs. New signage confirms the arrival of Chef Tan.
Decor-wise, the restaurant looks near complete. A sign on the window also indicates that Chef Tan is currently hiring staff, which means an opening date shouldn’t be too far off.
Chef Tan focuses on Chinese cuisine with a menu that features Hunan and Sichuan style dishes. Sichuan dishes — known for their spice and heat — include Szechuan Spicy Tofu ($13.95), Duck Blood & Stripes in Spicy Sauce ($25.95), and Friend Chicken in Chongqing Style ($16.95).
The menu also offers “Americanized” dishes with entrees like Chicken & Broccoli ($13.95) and Kung Pao dishes ($13.95).
Chef Tan is the latest restaurant to open in Newport joining the likes of Ruth’s Chris Steak House and neighboring Menya Sandaime.
