Chef Tan is officially open in Newport. The Highland Park-based restaurant soft opened its Jersey City outpost earlier this week.
At first glance, the Newport menu is very similar to the Highland Park restaurant. You’ll find a mix of Hunan and Sichuan style dishes as well as more “Americanized” Chinese dishes. Sichuan dishes — known for their spice and heat — include Szechuan Spicy Tofu ($13.95), Duck Blood & Stripes in Spicy Sauce ($25.95), and Fried Chicken in Chongqing Style ($16.95).
The restaurant has a bar area, but the bar isn’t set up yet. We inquired if they were BYOB to which they hesitantly nodded their head, but you may want to check with the restaurant before you show up with your bottle of vino.
Chef Tan is currently open for dine-in and take out.
