It’s been weeks since the horrific fire at Hoboken’s Chambord Building. Located at 38 Jackson Street, the building was home to numerous small businesses, many of which have been unable to operate since the December fire. To make matters worse, tenants allege that they’ve been unable to get clear communication from building management or the city of Hoboken.
No security deposits have been returned and tenants have been unable to access their units, says Jen Prado of House of Klado. Building management and the city keep contradicting each other, says Prado. As a result, residents and small businesses will unite on Friday, January 21 for a March for Chambord Tenants.
“Several weeks have passed since the fire and still there’s has been [sic] no clear communication from the city or building owners what the immediate plan is,” writes tenant Carl Augustin of The Vegan Warehouse. “The most impactful step to take in the immediate is to organize a demonstration march to build public awareness and put pressure on the city/owners.”
The march will meet at the Chambord Building at 10am and walk along 1st Street to Hoboken’s City Hall.
