One of downtown’s most unique spots, Eira Cafe has closed. But there’s good news if you’re a fan of Brazilian and Portuguese food. Capoeira Cafe opened late last year under new management in the former Eira space at 24 Mercer Street.
Capoeira Cafe specializes in authentic Brazilian and Portuguese food. The eatery is offering dinner from 5pm to 10pm on weekdays and brunch from 11am to 3pm on weekends. The restaurant remains BYOB.
In terms of the brunch menu, Capoeira Cafe has kept some favorites like its tosta mista (ham and cheese panini with yucca fries), but has added some great new dishes like the Savory Waffle (abraço de Brasileiro) which is a chewy Brazilian cheese bread waffle topped with your choice of eggs, Portuguese chorizo, cherry tomatoes, and salad.
Meanwhile, on the dinner side of the menu there are dishes like the Portuguese casserole with cod and the picanha steak, a beef cut from the rump area above the butt served with rice, beans, and chimichurri.
