A new pop-up shop is serving killer sandwiches in Hamilton Park. Cangiano’s Sandwich Pop-Up is now open at 232.5 Pavonia Avenue in the Hamilton Square Courtyard . (They’re in the former Van Hook Outpost spot).
The temporary pop-up is offering nine different Italian sandwiches. They include a turkey sandwich, ham sandwich, capocollo (lightly aged cured pork) sandwich, and some prosciutto-based sandwiches. Non-meat eaters can choose from a few mozzarella-based sandwiches, including a mozz, broccoli rabe, and olive oil sandwich (which sounds incredibly delicious).
Cangiano’s Sandwich Pop-Up also has a sandwich-of-the-day menu. Specials include a roast beef sandwich (pictured), which includes cheese, lettuce, and a drizzle of olive oil. The sandwiches sell for about $7 to $11. Keep in mind that Cangiano’s Pop-Up is not a sit-down spot. It’s a take-out counter where you order your sandwich to go.
The good news is that Cangiano’s Sandwich Pop-Up is a preview of what’s to come. Early next year, Cangiano’s owners — which have ties to the Cangiano’s in Staten Island and another market in Brooklyn — will open a larger Italian market/deli across the street at 223 Pavonia Avenue. (The corner retail space where Kanibal & Co. opened their Christmas pop-up last year). Cangiano’s market will offer Italian olive oil, homemade mozzarella, Italian meats/cheeses, sandwiches, an in-house butcher, and breakfast items. Think of it as a mini Eataly in our own backyard. The shop will open sometime in January of 2020. It’ll be a welcome addition for residents of Hamilton Park, who currently lack nearby market options.
In the meantime, Cangiano’s Sandwich Pop-Up is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11am to 3pm.
