Despite losing some local favorites like Piggyback Bar and Sawadee, Jersey City’s dining scene is still going strong. In fact, four Jersey City restaurants just made it to the Yelp Top 50 places to eat in North Jersey list.
The list — which is created using a restaurant’s total volume and ratings of reviews — includes eateries in the Heights, Journal Square, and Newport. (Oddly, there were no downtown entrants). On the 2019 list are:
- (2) Korai Kitchen (576 Summit)
- (7) Griot Cafe (434 Central Ave)
- (23) Cafe Peanut (586 Newark Ave)
- (39) Dorrian’s Red Hand (555 Washington Blvd)
This is the second year Korai Kitchen and Griot Cafe make Yelp’s Top 50 list. (Last year they came in first and fifth place, respectively). Meanwhile, Cafe Peanut, which opened this past summer, managed to secure a spot on Yelp’s list coming in at 23, whereas Newport’s Dorrian’s Red Hand came in at 39.
Absent from the list are Ling Long Xuan and Bread and Salt, which are two of our personal favorite new restaurants in 2019.
You can check out the Yelp Top 50 here, which includes spots in Hoboken (Alfalfa), Newark (Casa d’Paco), Montclair (The Corner, Vanillamore), and Fort Lee (Obaltan).
