Portuguese restaurant Broa is moving to 301 Grove Street. The restaurant recently announced via Instagram that it will move into a bigger space just a few steps away from its current location at 297 Grove.
Broa’s new home is a charming 1-family house that was built in 1830, according to Zillow. The two-story Greek revival offers 1,889 square feet of space and also boasts a 1,799 square foot lot. (We imagine the lot will make for a great outdoor dining space).
The BYOB restaurant has been a staple in downtown Jersey City for the past 10 years. Back in 2016, Gothamist declared Broa one of the best Portuguese restaurants in the country offering food that transports you back to Portugal. And it’s not just the food, but the space and decor itself that are reminiscent of a Portuguese eatery. Their new location is likely to be a great fit and offer an even greater dine-at-home vibe. (Think 15 Fox Place, but with a Portuguese menu).
In the past few weeks, Broa owner Michael Casalinho has opened new restaurant Tamborim (130 Newark Avenue) as well as cafe Eira (24 Mercer). Both are within walking distance of Broa’s new home, yet they each offer a unique experience. Tamborim focuses on Brazilian-inspired cuisine, whereas Eira offers a more cafe-like experience with popular Portuguese products, sausages, and pastries.
It’s unclear when the new Broa location will open, so stay tuned to their Instagram for the latest updates.
