Bon Vivant is opening a cake cafe in Jersey City. The New York-based pastry shop will open its new French bakery at 295 Johnston Avenue in Bergen-Lafayette. News of the Bon Vivant Jersey City bakery was first reported by TheFoundryGirlJC.
Founded by Maya Hormis in 2013, Bon Vivant is a luxury boutique for miniature cakes and petits fours. After a 17-year stint in finance, Hormis took a sabbatical to take pasty classes and study at Le Cordon Bleu. Upon returning to New York, she quit her job and launched Bon Vivant with a colleague.
The original Bon Vivant was located in New York City’s Upper East Side neighborhood, but that cafe has closed. However, the Bergen-Lafayette cake shop will offer a similar menu/experience to the New York shop. That means customers will enjoy a wide array of petit fours, which are bite-sized cakes served alongside afternoon tea. We’ve confirmed that the cake shop will also offer other French pastries like lemon curd financiers, shortbreads, and cocoa diamants. In addition to sweet and savory bites, Bon Vivant will also offer Julius Meinl coffee and tea.
There is currently no opening date for Bon Vivant. However, customers can place orders online and pick them up at the Jersey City shop.
Bon Vivant will be the second major French bakery expanding to Jersey City in recent weeks. It joins the likes of Maman Jersey City and Cafe Canard.
