From tree-lighting ceremonies to anniversary parties — here are the best things happening in Jersey City this first (potentially snowy) week of December.
Newport Tree Lighting Ceremony (Monday)
The first tree lighting in Jersey City takes place tonight as Newport lights up its Christmas tree at Town Square Park (from 6pm to 8pm). Plus, Newport residents can ice skate for free (valid ID required) at Newport Skates prior to the lighting. (The Pedestrian Mall tree lighting is next Tuesday, if you’re wondering).
Pop-Up Shop and Drag Show at Jersey Social (Tuesday)
Jersey Social and Find & Revive are teaming up for a holiday pop-up shop featuring vintage gifts and apparel. Plus, the bar will also host a drag show with Kimmy Sumony and Vanity Ray. Everything kicks off from 5pm to 11pm tonight.
Pizza and a Tree at Porta
Porta’s annual pizza-and-a-Christmas-tree special is back. Throughout the month of December, purchase two pizzas, a carafe of wine (or pitcher of beer), and a Fraser fir Christmas tree for $50.
Jersey City Arts Awards at White Eagle Hall (Tuesday)
The Jersey City Arts Council is hosting its second annual Jersey City Arts Award Show. The show is a celebration of local art and artists with live music, an open bar/buffet, and more. General admission is $90/pp.
Holiday Tree Lighting at Journal Square Plaza (Wednesday)
The first annual holiday tree lighting ceremony will take place today at Journal Square Plaza. There will be free hot chocolate and cookies along with a farmers’ market stand from Alstede Farms. You can also bring canned food to donate to Old Bergen Church.
Pad Paws Rescue Fundraiser at Hudson Hall (Wednesday)
Hudson Hall is hosting a fundraiser for Pad Paws Rescue — a non-profit 501c3 organization specializing in abandoned and injured animals along the Hudson River (between Battery Park/NYC and Jersey City, NJ). There will be raffles, prizes, food, drinks, and a silent auction. Suggested donation is $20.
Washington Park Tree Lighting (Wednesday)
Washing Park is celebrating its first Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The 30-foot Norway spruce is located in the picnic area of Washington Park. The ceremony runs from 6pm to 8pm.
Paul John Whiskey Tasting at CoolVines (Thursday)
When you think of whiskey, chances are India doesn’t come to mind. However, whiskey from Paul John distillers is widely known and loved worldwide. CoolVines (Grove Street) will have free tastings of Paul John whiskey today from 6pm to 8pm.
Six26 1-Year Anniversary Party (Thursday)
Get ready for the ultimate Thursday night party. Six26 is celebrating its 1-year anniversary tonight with a special “customer appreciation night.” They haven’t revealed details, but you can expect plenty of drink and food specials throughout the night.
Zeppelin Hall 10-Year Anniversary (Thursday to Sunday)
Zeppelin Hall is celebrating its 10-year anniversary by bringing back its top 10 dishes over the last decade. The biergarten will also offer its four most popular beers for just $5 each. Its outdoor “Polar Vortex” bar is also now open for the winter season.
JC Fridays Arts Show (Friday)

Holiday Art Show & Karaoke at Ed & Mary’s (Friday)
Ed & Mary’s is hosting its Holiday Art show tonight spotlighting the artwork of local Jersey City artists. Proceeds from all art sales go to the artists. Doors open at 7pm and karaoke starts at 8pm. (All proceeds from karaoke songs will also go to local non-profits).
