Newport Mall’s food options are rapidly expanding. Just a few months after the debut of The Little Beet Jersey City, New York’s Bao by Kaya has also opened a storefront inside the food court at Newport Centre Mall. They opened on Monday, September 16, according to their Facebook account.
Founded in 2014, Bao By Kaya started as a New York street food vendor specializing in Taiwanese eats. They specifically highlighted the Gua Bao, which are steamed buns filled with different types of meat. These days, baos are served at pretty much every street fest or Asian restaurant. However, Bao by Kaya sticks to traditional family recipes for their mouth-waterig baos.
Their menu includes a pork belly bao, red curry chicken bao, Peking duck bao, and a Szechuan cow bao. They also offer a vegetarian bao filled with fried tofu and sweet chili sauce.
Other options include rice bowls and a few sides such as dumplings, spring rolls, and popcorn chicken. Drinks options include bubble tea and green tea options. Baos are $5 (their Peking duck bao is $5.49), whereas rice bowls cost between $11 to $12. You can also order from a variety of combos (two baos and three spring rolls, for example) for around $12.
Bao by Kaya is located in Newport’s Food Court on the third floor. You’ll find them between Taste of India and Charleys Philly Steaks. They also have a location at Urbanspace in New York at 570 Lexington Avenue.
