As COVID-19 cases continue to rise across Jersey City, Mayor Steven Fulop says there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Fulop recently tweeted that vaccine distributions in Jersey City will begin in December. Health care professionals and first responders will be prioritized in the first round of vaccines.
In addition, Fulop says that state officials expect that 70% of the population of Jersey City will have received the COVID-19 vaccine within 6 months. However, before that happens Fulop is asking the state to provide more information on the possible side effects of the vaccine.

“The state needs to be doing more on education for ppl of side effects,” tweeted Fulop. “We don’t feel like they are doing anything on this front and meanwhile they are asking residents to be injected with small doses of Corona virus.” (CNN has an explanation of the technologies behind the vaccines. You’re not being injected with live COVID-19, instead they’re referred to by the CDC as mRNA COVID-19 vaccines).
As of this weekend, Jersey City has 9,820 total coronavirus cases with 537 deaths (cumulative since March). The city’s 7-day rolling average is now 104 new cases per day. Back in September our 7-day rolling average was generally in the single digits.
