Mayor Steven Fulop will begin reopening Jersey City’s parks today. The five parks reopening today are: Enos Jones Park, Berry Lane Park, Audubon Park, Leonard Gordon Park, and Pershing Field. All five have been deep cleaned prior to their reopening.
“We can’t ask our residents, who rely on parks for outdoor access, to stay inside indefinitely,” said Fulop in a press release. “We believe now is an appropriate time to responsibly provide residents with that public health outlet in a controlled setting, especially as the weather warms.”
Each of the parks will also be guarded by a Division of Parks and Forestry employee and a Recreational Divisional employee. Various restrictions will apply, including:
- Face coverings must be worn at all times (gloves are recommended).
- City officials reserve the right to limit entry to the park if it’s too crowded.
- Park-goers will be removed if improper behavior takes place.
- No organized sports will be permitted.
- Playground equipment, dog runs, and basketball courts will remain closed.
- Restrooms and indoor facilities will also remain closed.
- All dogs must be kept on leashes.
Fulop says that a second phase of park reopenings is expected for mid-May. You can see a list of all city parks here (PDF).
