Looking for a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? While there are plenty of local spots you can go to for a romantic dinner for two, we’re going to focus on some unconventional — and less crowded — ways to woo that special someone in your life.
Learn to dance the rumba and tango
This Valentine’s Day make your partner’s heart skip a beat at the Jersey City Ballroom. The dance studio is offering a variety of Valentine’s Day Packages where you can learn to dance rumba and tango in a group class ($40 per couple) or opt for a private lesson of your choice ($179 per couple). Private classes are held in a romantic, candle-lit studio and include champagne for two and truffle chocolates. (When: 2/9, 2/10, 2/11, & 2/14; purchase tickets)
Decorate Insta-worthy Cookies with Jersey City Sweets
Join veteran pastry chef and Jersey City resident Jen Benyamine for an afternoon of cookie decorating in honor of Valentine’s Day. The Cookie Workshop will be held this Sunday, February 11 at the Brunswick Center and costs $45 per person. It includes cookies, refreshments, and all the utensils needed to churn out the perfect cookie. Did we mention BYOB is encouraged? (When: 2/11; purchase tickets)
Take them to a whisky-tasting class
Roses may be romantic, but nothing is as potent as a Whisky-Tasting Class to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Join Jersey Wine & Spirits for a whisky adventure around the world. The 1.5-hour class will taste five different pours including a rye, Scotch, bourbon, Japanese whisky, and Irish whisky. Tickets are $20 per person. (When: 2/13; purchase tickets)
Make the perfect batch of Rose Latte gelato
Bucket & Bay is celebrating the sweetest day of the year with a special Valentine’s Day-themed Gelato-Making Class. Learn to make their Rose Latte Gelato while enjoying aperitifs and samples of local food. The 2.5-hour class also includes a gelato tasting. Cost is $95 per person. (When: 2/14; purchase tickets)
