2 Jersey City Police Officers in Serious Condition with COVID-19

What you need to know for Monday morning:

1: The two Jersey City police officers who tested positive for COVID-19 are in serious condition at Jersey City Medical Center, said Mayor Steven Fulop. Sixteen other officers are in quarantine, 42 officers are “out with various symptoms,” and 24 have recovered and returned for service. The mayor adds that the JCPD is still fully staffed for every shift and there’s been a 25% decrease in service calls. —Mayor Fulop/Twitter

2: New Jersey currently has 1,914 (up from 1,327) positive COVID-19 cases with 20 deaths (up from 16) total. The five counties with the most positive cases are:

  • Bergen County (457 up from 363)
  • Essex (172 up from 107)
  • Monmouth (158 up from 92)
  • Middlesex (147 up from 116)
  • Hudson (126 up from 97)

3: Toll booths at the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, and the Lincoln Tunnel will stop accepting cash payments in an effort to reduce the spread of germs. Commuters without E-ZPass will have their license plates scanned and a bill sent to their address. —NJ.com

4: Scientists have identified 69 drugs that could be effective in treating novel coronavirus. The list includes some unexpected names like metformin, which is used by patients with Type 2 diabetes. More research is being performed at the moment. —NY Times
