Take note, meat lovers. Downtown will soon get its first sustainable butcher shop.
Slated to open in early 2018, Darke Pines will dedicate itself to locally-sourced and sustainably raised meat.
It’ll be the first quality meat supplier in downtown Jersey City, says William Messmer, who along with his wife, Erica, will operate the shop.
Darke Pines will source its meat from small, family farms in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. The shop will only work with producers who the couple have met and talked to face-to-face. Equally important will be how the farms raise their animals and the quality of the farm’s meat.
The shop will offer pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, house-made sausages, and poultry. For those times you don’t feel like cooking, Darke Pines will also have sandwiches and charcuterie for sale.
There’s no official location yet, but Darke Pines anticipates an early 2018 opening. In the meantime, you can follow them on Instagram.
