Rolon’s Bar to Reopen as The Keyhole by End of Month

1

Back in November, one of downtown’s oldest bars closed its doors.

Rolon’s Bar — aka The Keyhole — was a no-frills dive bar with dirt-cheap drinks and a friendly cast of characters. For locals, Rolon’s was the face of Jersey City, whereas for newcomers it was downtown’s best kept secret and the area’s best spot to catch a cheap buzz.

Jersey City Upfront has learned that the bar is undergoing a few quick renovations and is looking to relaunch under new ownership by New Year’s Eve.

The good news is that the casual, dive bar feel that Rolon’s was known for will remain. The bar — which going forward will be known as just The Keyhole — will offer an affordable and varied beer list with both mainline and craft beers. There will also be a cocktail list for those times you don’t want beer.

Down the line, The Keyhole will undergo a full renovation and expand to the second floor, at which point you’ll also be able to order food.

In the meantime, you can follow The Keyhole for sneak peeks at what’s to come.

  1. Rolon’s was more than just a downtown dive. It was one of the cultural epicenters that made Jersey City what it is today. I suggest you write a follow-up story about its previous owners, the Waterbug nights upstairs, and all the other things that made it a legend.
