For Krista Misuraca, the road to Salon 10N wasn’t always clear cut.
“I started out in corporate, but I just couldn’t do it everyday,” says Misuraca. “I needed a creative outlet.”
Misuraca, who grew up in New Jersey and has lived in Jersey City for the past 16 years, remembered seeing her mom cut hair professionally and after giving it much thought, she decided on a career change.
“So I found a salon in Edgewater called Blu, walked in with my resume, and asked if they were hiring,” says Misuraca. “The receptionist shut me down pretty quickly, but the owner happened to overhear so I talked with her and next thing I know, she asked if I could start that Saturday.”
One month after working at Blu, Misuraca enrolled in beauty school and subsequently flew to Santa Monica, CA, for a 4-week course at Vidal Sassoon Academy.
“When I got back from California my boss gave me a chair and the rest is history.”
Eleven years later, Misuraca is celebrating the opening of her first salon in Jersey City’s Hamilton Park neighborhood.
“It was one of the best days of my life,” says Misuraca, recalling the day the Silvermans invited her to open at Park Francis.
I really wanted to work with them because I had heard so many good things from friends that own businesses in their buildings, she says.
Construction on Salon 10N started last June and the space was designed entirely by Misuraca, who honed her design and fashion skills at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.
The full-service salon offers a range of services including cuts, color, treatments, and more. Misuraca, who is a certified holistic professional, also features a range of organic and natural beauty products.
“I’m really proud of the space and feel like the energy here is great,” she says. “I also love the sense of community in Hamilton Park. It has such a great vibe.”
Salon 10N is currently hiring NJ licensed cosmetologists. Interested applicants can reach out to info@salon10n.com.
